The Dolphin Dash is a free PTA sponsored event that takes place on a Friday evening in September. It is the welcome back event for CLES. In Physical Education class leading up to this event all students practice running around the outside of the school grounds along the Dolphin Dash course. All students should be familiar with the race before arriving for the event. It is expected that parents come to the event with their child and stay for the entire event. Siblings and families are welcome.
The Dolphin Dash or "fun run" component takes place on the grass surface behind the school near the closest soccer goal. The race route is marked in the grass with spray paint. Children line up at the starting line and the physical education teacher calls the start of the race with a megaphone. The first group of children to race is kindergarten, followed by first grade, then second grade etc. The dash ends with a CLES alumni (former CLES students) race. This is intended to be a fun run and is not a competition. There are no awards given to any runners.
You may receive a pizza order form in your child's take home folder prior to the Dolphin Dash. The PTA often offers families the ability to purchase a pizza for dinner. The pizza must be pre-ordered and cannot be bought at the event. Many families choose to bring their own dinner and have a picnic at this event.
After the fun run, free ice cream/popsicles are distributed to children, siblings, and parents on the black top. Then there is a disc jockey (DJ) that plays modern pop music for dancing. Children often play sports on the grass field or on the playground equipment. Glow sticks are distributed to the children free of charge.

To ensure a fun evening:
- Occasionally children get upset if they miss the start of the race so it is advised that newcomers arrive early to ensure that their child makes it to the starting line for their grade's race.
- The Dolphin Dash is a mass start race and some children may trip at the starting line. Please caution your child to have a clean careful start.
- Splash the dolphin mascot is present during parts of the Dolphin Dash. Please be aware if your child is wary of people dressed in full costume.
- The DJ plays modern pop music. These are clean versions played on the radio. It is not KidsBop.
- At the end of the event, it gets late and becomes dark. It may be difficult to find your child in the dark among all the other children. You may want to find your children before nightfall.
